Dr. Milind Kulkarni

Milind Shrinivasrao Kulkarni is an experienced solar and semiconductor technologist, who also brings broad expertise in General Management, Strategic Analysis, Business Development, Mergers & Acquisitions, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Supply Chain. He has extensive background in solar silicon processing from Polysilicon Production to Module Assembly and in semiconductor silicon processing from Crystal Growth to Silicon Epitaxy. Milind has extensively worked in both the US and India. Milind was serving as President of PV manufacturing until June, 2023 in Reliance New Solar Energy, where he was responsible for setting the business vision and executing the overall Solar and PV business plan. He oversaw cell and module technology development and implementation as the CTO of Vikram Solar, before joining Reliance. From July 2017 to February 2021, Milind served as the CEO of Suzlon Renewable Technologies and its sister company, Svagos Technik, where he was responsible for the development of next generation semiconductor and renewable technologies and implementation of these technologies in HVM.

Milind’s prior experiences were in the entire solar and semiconductor value chains in MEMC Electronic Materials, SunEdison, and GCL-Solar Materials, all part of one family of companies with a common origin. Milind worked on developing collaborative and strategic business partnerships (JVs) to implement SunEdison’s Polysilicon, Crystal Growth, Wafering, and Module technologies into HVM. He was also responsible for explorative development of solar cells with various collaborators. He oversaw the development of turnkey solutions from technology selection to HVM.

He represented SunEdison’s interests as a member of the Board of Directors of SunEdison’s joint venture with Samsung Fine Chemicals, SMP. In the past, Milind also directed sales and operations management, demand and supply forecasting, capacity and inventory management, supply chain mapping and optimization, operations research and production optimization, lean initiatives, and technology driven procurement across the solar materials value chain. Milind and his teams have developed new technologies that can create more than $10 B in value. Milind also facilitated M&A activities valued more than $100 M.

Milind is an author or co-author of more than 70 international journal publications, patents, conference presentations, invited plenary talks, and book chapters, collectively. He also started the Solar Silicon Symposium in China (2009) that has grown into China Photovoltaic Technology International Conference (CPTIC). Both his doctoral work and industrial research have received special recognitions by The AIChE Journal (Paper of the Month) and The Journal of The Electrochemical Society (Technical Highlight). Milind actively served as an official reviewer for various journals. He was a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of The Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research (an ACS publication) and served as a member of The National Council of Engineering School of Washington University, St. Louis, USA.

Milind holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Mumbai (ICT/UDCT), master’s degree from Oregon State University, doctorate from Washington University, all in chemical engineering. Dr. Gangadhar Rao

Dr. Gangadhar Rao is a highly experienced professional in silicon and solar PV value chain with more than 30 years of industry experience. He specializes in project execution, Basic & Detailed Engineering for Solar PV manufacturing projects, Commissioning & Ramp up, Operations management, and Management Advisory services.

His experience includes leadership stints with Lanco Solar as COO, DuPont India Ltd, and specialty chemical manufacturing companies in Gujarat, and as an independent advisor & consultant for solar manufacturing sectors. He has a very good network among Indian technocrats and project professionals.

Dr. Rao has led many scaleups of chemical and solar manufacturing technologies, including Polysilicon, Ingot (crystal)-Wafer and Module manufacturing. He has successfully completed various GW scale Solar manufacturing projects (Polysilicon, Ingot-Wafer, PV Modules) involving technology roadmaps, layout design, detailed capex & opex cost estimations, process Line configuration design, basic engineering for sizing of utilities and facilities, equipment selection and installation, and plant commissioning and ramp-up in various countries, including India, Turkey, Qatar, China and South Korea.

His soft skills include mentoring young technical minds, young entrepreneurs, promotion of Industry-Academia interactions in India. Dr. Rao holds a B.Tech from Andhra University (Visakhapatnam), M.Tech from IIT-Kanpur, and Ph.D. from IIT-Bombay, all in chemical engineering. He is Fellow of The Institute of Engineers, India, and Life Member of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is a Yoga enthusiast.

Dr. Satyendra Kumar

Dr Satyendra Kumar, a highly respected technologist with broad management and leadership bandwidth, has over thirty years of experience in research, development and deployment of solar PV technologies. He has more than 200 publications in International Journals and Conferences. Dr Kumar was founding member and Chief Technology Officer of Lanco Solar. He was responsible for organization building and the technology strategy of the group’s vision of sand to power business model. As a CTO and member of the top management council, he held cross functional responsibilities in organization building, business development, international purchasing, EPC and O&M. He directed technology acquisition, adaptation and implementation of manufacturing facility – polysilicon, ingots, wafers, cells and modules (investment US$ 300 million).

Dr Kumar directs the technology vision of his company Swajal Water Pvt Ltd to design and develop IoT driven smart water purification systems to provide safe drinking water. He has also been consulting and advising a large number of companies in India and abroad on solar manufacturing and deployment.


As a Professor at IIT Kanpur (1990-2008) and subsequently as CTO at Lanco Solar (2008-2013), Dr Kumar has mentored a large number of young professionals for solar technology and business.

Anil Ladha

Anil Ladha is a highly experienced finance professional with ~30 years’ experience. He specializes in corporate finance, capital markets, investors relations, project finance and financial management. His experience includes leadership stints with ICICI Securities (leading investment bank in India), Morgan Stanley, ANZ Bank, corporate groups in infrastructure and solar manufacturing sectors.

He has good networking among investors, lenders and financial intermediaries.
He has led many innovative and complex transactions including India’s first supranational bond issue for ADB, India’s first mortgage based deals for HDFC and LIC Housing finance, structured funding for Coca Cola India, large sized IPOs for various corporate groups, USD loans for large infrastructure companies, India’s first samurai bonds issue for EXIM Bank, telecom bonds issue, M&A transactions with Wipro, project funding with Power Finance Corporation, US solar manufacturing project part-financing, etc.

Mauro Pedrotti

Mr. Mauro Pedrotti is an highly experienced professional in silicon and semiconductor technology with more than 40 years in leadership position in this industry. He brings a broad technical, manufacturing and managerial direct experience in the silicon substrate supply chain. During his 4 decades of experience in a leading global semiconductor silicon group, he held several technical positions in different functions, including R&D, start-up, technology development, product qualification and high volume manufacturing of a new epitaxy line in an Italian Site. Mr.Pedrotti then extended his experience to operations, running a high volume wafering and epitaxy line, in which he oversaw continuous introduction of new technologies in the high volume production ecosystem to align with market needs.

In his career, Mauro has held various leadership positions such as plant manager of two different sites that manufactured Siemens Polysilicon, silicon crystals by both the Czochralski (CZ) and the Continuous Czochralski (CCZ) process, polished silicon wafers, along with epitaxial wafers for Semiconductor applications.

In the last 20 years, he also successfully held the role of President and Managing Director of the Italian Branch that employed more than one thousand professionals in two sites.

Mr. Pedrotti brings the first hand expertise and experience in General Management, Operations, product development, new operation start-up, Finance and Cost Management.

In the most recent years, he was active in the ESG matters, with focus on the Environmental aspects. His soft skills include attracting professionals with high potentials, mentoring and retention, employee support and motivation, and managing relationships with government bodies and authorities.

Dr. Bing Dai

Bing Dai is a veteran in PV solar industry with an exceptional track record. He started his carrier in MEMC (SunEdison) as a research and development engineer in solar and semiconductor silicon value chains, with a focus on Crystal Growth. He made significant contributions in both quantification of the multiscale dynamics of Crystal Growth and development of new designs and processes in the Magnetic Czochralski Crystal Growth Process.

Later, serving as the CTO of GCL, he determined commercially the most successful PV polysilicon production route, which helped GCL to become the largest polysilicon producer in three years. He also developed for GCL the most successful multi-crystalline PV silicon wafer products that dominated the global PV silicon wafer market for many years. He also served as the President of GCL’s Research Center in Washington, USA. Bing is presently advising the development of technology and business strategies and solar roadmaps for Wanhua’s renewable energy business. He is successfully promoting the strategic cooperation between Longji and Wanhua in green energy.

Other than in technology, Bing Dai has broad experience in operations, supply chain, marketing, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, he has a strong network in the PV solar industry, including manufacturers, vendors and investors. For his contributions to the solar industry, Bing was honored with the prestigious “Business Elites under 40” award by Global Entrepreneur, in 2014. He is continuing his efforts to facilitate improvements in the overall utilization of the solar energy by improvements in efficiency, cost, productivity, and storage.

Bing is an author or co-author of more than 20 international journal publications, patents, conference presentations, and invited plenary talks, collectively. He is an author of a comprehensive book Chapter “Fundamentals and Engineering of the Czochralski Growth of Semiconductor Silicon Crystals,” in the Encyclopedia of Semiconductor Science and Technology, published by Elsevier. Bing holds a bachelor’s degree from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (China), master’s degree from Tsinghua University (China), and doctorate from University of Minnesota (USA), all in materials science. He also worked as a post-doctoral fellow in University of California in Santa Barbara and Los Alamos National Laboratory (USA).

Dr. Maria Porrini

Maria Porrini is a scientist with 38 years of experience in the industrial growth of semiconductor silicon crystals for microelectronic and photovoltaic applications. Her expertise includes impurities and defects control in Czochralski (CZ)-silicon crystals, minority carrier lifetime, oxygen concentration and oxygen precipitation control, development of new hot zones and pulling processes, 300 mm Continuous CZ technology development, and polysilicon and quartz crucible evaluation.

In her industrial career, she has successfully managed global projects, technically challenging projects, and public funded R&D projects in both technical and administrative aspects. She has a long experience in leading global multi-culture project teams. She joined MEMC Electronic Materials (now a GlobalWafer Company) in 1983 in the R&D department, where she held various positions and served later as a R&D manager until she retired in 2021. She is an author or co-author of 50+ scientific papers and 10 patents. As GlobalWafer Senior Fellow, she has mentored young engineers and held teaching sessions for engineers on the Science and Technology of Silicon Crystal Growth.

Maria Porrini graduated cum laude in Physics in 1983 from the University of Bologna, with a thesis on A new electrostatic phase-shifting effect. She is a member of the Electrochemical Society and the Italian Crystal Growth Association. Also, she was a member of the Steering Committee of the International Workshop on Crystal Growth Technology from 2011 to 2022.

Dr. Roberto Scala

Dr. Scala has more than 30 years of experience in Czochralski (CZ) and Continuous Czochralski (CCZ) silicon crystal and Wafer manufacturing for semiconductor applications. He joined MEMC Electronic Materials (former Dynamit Nobel Silicon) in 1987 in Novara, Italy, as a wafer process engineer. He moved in 1989 to the Merano Plant as the QA manager for polysilicon and single crystal. As a QA manager, he created the plant QA system and developed protocol for achieving all necessary quality certifications. He was a member of the German DIN semiconductor section.


Later, he started his work in Engineering and Technology of CZ Crystal Growth. He lead important technology projects introducing new production lines for heavily doped N type crystal growth and for the growth of 300 mm crystals CCZ.


He participated in the development of various analytical characterization methods and cooperated in development projects involving Universities and foreign partners. Numerous patents and journal publications have resulted from his work. He was in charge of managing the projects funded by public administrative bodies. Dr. Scala has a doctorate in Chemistry from Turin University in Italy (1978). He has also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the surface physics department of the Fritz Haber Institute der Max Planck Gesellschaft in West Berlin (1982-1984).

Prof. Luciano Mule'stagno

Prof. Luciano Mule’stagno is the Director of the Institute for Sustainable Energy and Group Leader of the Solar Research Lab at the University of Malta. He holds a Ph.D in Physics from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. He returned to his native Malta in 2007 from the US where, after his PhD studies, he spent 12 years working with MEMC Electronic Materials (now Global Wafers, formerly SunEdison). His last post there was that of Director of Worldwide Labs with responsibility for labs in Asia, Europe and the US. He was also responsible for failure analysis and was often involved with making technical presentations to customers. His major expertise is in the characterization, engineering and synthesis of semiconductor and solar materials, and on solar systems including offshore solar.

He has published extensively and holds 10 patents on semiconductor/solar materials. His current research interests are in photovoltaics systems and materials and other renewable energy technologies. He is involved in several funded research projects and led ERDF335 – the 4.2M Euro project to fund a solar research lab within the same Institute. He is also the leader of Solaqua, a project to study and develop offshore solar energy for which a startup is being formed. Last year, together with his group, he filed three patent applications including one for Solaqua. Luciano has a passion for heritage and environmental issues.

His first post in Malta was that of CEO of Heritage Malta (2007-2009) and he is currently Vice-president of Din L-Art Helwa (The National Trust of Malta). He is also Chairman of the COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) scientific committee and has served on the boards of several local companies.

Richard Schrenker

Richard Schrenker (Rick) has over 30 years of experience in solving heat transfer, fluid flow, and structural problems using classical methods and finite elements for solar, electronics, chemical, and automotive industry. In the past 8 years, he worked as Director and Senior Director of R&D Equipment Development group for SunEdison and GSM Solar Materials company and led the design group in developing and implementing equipment used for the manufacture of polysilicon and single crystal silicon crystals and wafers for the Solar industry.

Prior to that, he managed and led the R&D Equipment Engineering group for over 25 years in the design of industry leading equipment and processes for 200 mm and 300 mm crystal growth as well as Solar DSS and Mono CCZ processes.

Roland Vandamme

Roland received his engineering degree from the RijksUniversiteit, Ghent. (1976 – 1980 ), specializing in Semiconductor Physics. In 1980, he joined Monsanto in the US and supervised the transition from 3” to 12” wafer diameters. He became very familiar with slicing, lapping, and polishing processes.

Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala

Ashok Jhunjhunwala, President, IITM Research Park, IITM Incubation Cell and RTBI, did his B.Tech degree from IIT Kanpur and MS and PhD from University of Maine, USA and was a faculty at Washington State University, USA for a year and half. He was a faculty at IIT Madras from 1981 to 2023 and is subsequently a Institute Professor at IITM. He is currently the Chairman of the CSIR Advisory Board, IIIT Hyderabad and College of Engineering, Trivandrum.


Prof. Jhunjhunwala is considered a pioneer in nurturing Industry-Academia interaction in India towards R&D, Innovation and Product Development.
He conceived and built IIT Madras Research Park to promote Industry-Academia R&D, collaboration and Innovation. TIE conferred him the title of Dronacharya for his contributions to the cause of entrepreneurship, as he incubated and nurtured more than 350 companies at IITM Incubation Cell and Rural Technology and Business Incubator (RTBI). He lead TeNeT group, which creates innovative affordable products in sectors like telecom, banking, energy and electric vehicles.

Dr. Shaker Sadasivam

Shaker Sadasivam is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Auragent Bioscience, LLC. He also serves on the boards Coherent Inc., (NYSE: COHR) and FTC Solar (Nasdaq: FTCI), Inc., and of three private companies, Sfara, DClimate Inc., and Sea Pharma, LLC.



In 2016, Dr. Sadasivam retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of SunEdison Semiconductor Limited, a leading manufacturer of advanced semiconductors for electronics, a position he held from 2013. From 2009 to 2013, he served as Executive Vice President and President, Semiconductor Materials Business Unit of SunEdison, Inc. (a predecessor to SunEdison Semiconductor Limited, formerly known as MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc.). From 2002 to 2009, Dr. Sadasivam served as Senior Vice President Research and Development of SunEdison, Inc.


Dr. Sadasivam holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Madras, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and Clarkson University, NY, all in Chemical Engineering and a M.B.A. from Washington University’s Olin School of Business.

Dr. Lawerence Kazmerski

Lawrence L. Kazmerski is currently Fellow with the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI), University of Colorado Boulder. He is Emeritus Research Staff Member of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Golden, Colorado, having last served as Executive Director Science and Technology Partnerships at NREL 2009-2013. Kazmerski’s 50-year professional career in solar energy includes serving as the founding Director of the National Center for Photovoltaics (NCPV) for the period 1999 through 2008 and establishing and leading the measurements and characterization programs (1977-1999). He received his B.S.E.E. (1967), M.S.E.E. (1968) and Ph.D. (1970) in electrical engineering—all from the University of Notre Dame.

He served a postdoctoral position with the Atomic Energy Commission at the Notre Dame Radiation Research Laboratory, January through August 1971. He was on the electrical engineering faculty (Associate Professor) at the University of Maine before coming to the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI-which became NREL in 1991) in 1977. His research at Maine included NSF- and ERDA-funded work in thin-film photovoltaics and the report of the first thin-film copper-indium-diselenide (CIS) solar cell. He was SERI’s (NREL’s) first staff member in photovoltaics, hired specifically to establish research efforts in characterization off photovoltaic materials and devices; he led NREL efforts in measurements and characterization for more than 20 years. Kazmerski has more than 350 publications and some 200 invited talks.

He holds 4 patents for instrument development, which resulted in 4-R&D 100 Awards. His research interests included the DOE Office of Science Energy Frontiers Research Center (EFRC) at NREL dealing with “materials-by-design”, for which he served as the Project Integrator (2009-2012), and solar projects ranging from the rebuilding of the electricity infrastructure using PV in Iraq through mitigation dust problems for PV collectors (with emphasis on the MENA countries). He served as the Co-Director of the US-India Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center (“Solar Energy Research Institute for India and the U.S.” or SERIIUS – www.SERIIUS.org). Currently he is involved with PV reliability R&D supported by the government of Brazil—especially dealing with soiling issues and mitigation with various PV technologies – www.PVReliability.org. At CU-Boulder, he serves as P.I. Program Integrator for the CU DOE EERE SEPA research program on perovskite materials and solar cells.

He is part of the CU materials-by-design group (inversedesign.org). He has been recognized with several national and international awards, including the World PV Prize, the IEEE William R. Cherry Award, the AVS Peter Mark Memorial Award, the ASES Charles Greeley Abbot Award, and the ISES Christopher A. Weeks Award. In 2019, he received the ISES Farrington Daniels Award for his contributions to advancing solar energy research, development, and technology. In 2022, he is serving as a Fulbright Scholar in Brasil, with the research on PV reliability and product integrity.

He is a Fellow of the IEEE, Fellow of the APS, Fellow of the AVS, and Fellow of ASES. Kazmerski is Visiting Professor (Energy) at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (Brasil) and is the Gandhi Distinguished Visiting Professor of Electrical Engineering with the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B), working with their PV programs. Kazmerski is Distinguished Faculty of the Strömstad Akademi, Sweden. In 2017, Kazmerski was appointed as Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS).

Kazmerski is a Fulbright Scholar (2022), with a research project dealing with PV reliability and quality in Brasil. Kazmerski is a member (elected 2005) of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. In November 2018, he was elected as a foreign member of the Indian Academy of Engineering.

Dr. Shaker Sadasivam

Mr Senapathy “Kris” Gopalakrishnan is the Chairman of Axilor Ventures, an accelerator that helps start-ups during the early stage of their business journey. Kris served as the vice chairman of Infosys from 2011 to 2014 and the chief executive officer and managing director of Infosys from 2007 to 2011. Kris is one of the co-founders of Infosys. Recognized as a global business and technology thought leader, he was voted the top CEO (IT Services category) in Institutional Investor’s inaugural ranking of Asia’s Top Executives and selected as one of the winners of the second Asian Corporate Director Recognition Awards by Corporate Governance Asia in 2011. He was elected president of India’s apex industry chamber Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2013-14 and served as one of the co-chairs of the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2014.


Mr Gopalakrishnan serves on the Board of Governors of Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), is the Chairman, The Council, IISc Bangalore, and is the Chairman, Board of Governors of IIIT, Bangalore. He is the Chairman of the Vision Group on Information Technology of Karnataka Government, the Chairman of RBIH (Reserve Bank of India Innovation Hub) and the Chairman of CII Centre of Excellence in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Start-ups (CIES).



Mr Gopalakrishnan is the chairman of Itihaasa Research and Digital which publishes history of Indian IT industry as “itihaasa” (http://www.itihaasa.com/) microsite as well as reports on industrial and academic research in India. He is the Co-author of “Against All Odds – The IT Story of India”. Mr Gopalakrishnan invests in promoting research on Brain sciences, aging related disorders as well as investing in start-ups and start-up ecosystem. His family philanthropy is Pratiksha Trust and investment arm is Pratithi.


Mr. Gopalakrishnan holds master’s degrees in physics and computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Kris is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE) and an Honorary Fellow of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) of India. In January 2011, the Government of India awarded Mr. Gopalakrishnan the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian honor.
